October 2026 Success Story
Meet Jerry: Working, Learning, and Looking Ahead
Jerry has worked as a janitor with PORTCO at Germanna Community College since 2024. His responsibilities include cleaning bathrooms, taking out the trash, and helping with other cleaning needs throughout the campus. His work helps maintain a clean, welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors. Along the way, he’s also made friends and become known for recommending movies.
After graduating from James Monroe High School, Jerry participated in Project SEARCH at Mary Washington Healthcare, completing internship rotations in supply chain, engineering, and Environmental Services. His hands-on cleaning experience helped prepare him for his current position. RSVP, Inc. supported his transition into employment and continues to provide on-the-job support.
Now, Jerry is also a Germanna student, taking Two-Dimensional Design as he explores his interests in art, filmmaking, and acting. His advice to others with disabilities considering college? “Channel your inner Jerry: Cool, charismatic, and awesome. Mostly, just be yourself.”
We’re proud to celebrate Jerry’s work and his continued pursuit of new goals!
